The National Agency for Research and Development (NARD) hosted, for the first time, on October 21, 2024, the meeting for handing out the scholarship certificates offered by the World Federation of Scientists (WFS) for the year 2024-2025. The meeting was attended by the general director of NARD, dr. hab. Aurelia Hanganu; Acad. Gheorghe Duca, WFS coordinator in the Republic of Moldova; Acad. Ion Bostan and Prof. Ion Mereuța, director of the Institute of Physiology and Sanocreatology, president of the Academy of Medical Sciences "Acad. Gheorghe Tîbîrnă".
The General Director of NARD, Aurelia Hanganu, welcomed the scientific community, congratulating the winners of this prestigious scholarship program. At the same time, the Agency's leadership emphasized the fact that supporting young people in the field of research was established as a national objective, and this field is under the tutelage of the state. "We confirm, once again, that young researchers represent the future of science in the Republic of Moldova. We are firmly convinced that the ten scholarships, who represent various higher education institutions in the country, will make significant contributions in the field of research at the national and international level", emphasized Aurelia Hanganu.
The WFS coordinator in the Republic of Moldova, acad. Gheorghe Duca, referred to the history of this Scholarship Program and highlighted its importance for supporting young talents and promoting research in the country. "Offering WFS scholarships continues to be a prestige for PhD students and young researchers from the Republic of Moldova. This event has become a tradition of supporting young scientists in the country", said the president of the WFS in the Republic of Moldova, thanking NARD for hosting the event, as well as the academic guests for their presence and support of the young researchers.
The 10 researchers received from the WFS scholarship:
1. Researcher, Canțîr Angela, Institute of Ecology and Geography/MSU. Project title: Evaluation of geomorphological processes on agricultural lands in the Calintir Hydrographic Basin
2. Researcher, dr. Covaliov Eugenia, Technical University of Moldova. Project title: Intelligent valorization of wine residues in the context of the circular economy
3. Researcher, dr. Cabac-Pogorevici Irina, "Nicolae Testemitanu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Project title: Optimizing the Diagnosis and therapy of heart failure through artificial intelligence: an innovative approach for precise plassification and personalized therapy.
4. Researcher, dr. Covaci Ecaterina, Technical University of Moldova. Project title: Ouantification of bioactive compounds in secondary wine by-products and their use in human nutrition.
5. Researcher, dr. Gîrbu Vladilena, Institute of Chemistry, MSU. Project title: Radical functionalization of terpenes via visible light carboazidation.
6. Researcher, Moldovan Cristina, Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology/TUM. Project title: Identification of a micromycete strain with stimulatory potential for agricultural plants.
7. Researcher, Eremciuc Rodica, "Nicolae Testemitanu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Project title: The applicability of triponderal index in tackling childhood obesity in Moldova.
8. PhD student Cristea Nicolae, Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plant Protection, MSU. Project title: Research on the particulars adaptation and virulence of Fusarium Oxysporum strains extracted from common wheat plants in different areas of the Republic of Moldova
9. PhD student Tașca Corina, Moldova State University. Project title: The influence of bioactive additives on biomass fermentation from agro-industrial sector.
10. Researcher, dr. Morari Vadim, "D. Ghitu" Institute of Electronic Engineering and Nanotechnologies /TUM. Project title: Study of n-ITO/n-Zn1-xMgxO:Al/p-Si heterostructures obtained by spray pyrolysis technique for solar cells.
The scholarship holders briefly presented their project proposals, emphasizing the importance of the research topics for science and the development of the Republic of Moldova. The guests at the event, dr. hab. A. Hanganu, Acad. Ion Bostan and Prof. Ion Mereuța handed out the scholarship certificates and encouraged the scholarship holders to continue developing their research projects and contribute to the deepening of knowledge in various fields.

At the end, Acad. Gheorghe Duca congratulated the scholarship holders offered by the WFS and mentioned that the offering of these scholarships is a great prestige for PhD students and young researchers from the Republic of Moldova, at the same time it constitutes an important tradition of supporting young scientists in the country.
