Winners of the Scholarship Program offered by FMS for the year 2023-2024

On June 20, 2023, during a special ceremony held at the ANACEC headquarters, the World Federation of Scientists (FMS) awarded certificates of excellence scholarships to young researchers and doctoral students in the Republic of Moldova. The event was organized in collaboration with ANACEC and brought together distinguished personalities from the academic and scientific fields: Rector of ASEM, Mem. cor. Prof. Alexandru Stratan, President of ANACEC, Prof. Andrei Chiciuc, President of the Medical Science Academy "Acad. Gheorghe Tabarna," Prof. Ion Mereuta.

FMS, an international organization based in Erice, Sicily, was founded in 1973 by Prof. Antonino Zichichi, an eminent physicist and discoverer of the antideuteron. Moldova has been a member of FMS since 1999, and since 2012, the coordinator of FMS in the Republic of Moldova is Mr. Acad. Gheorghe Duca. The National Scholarship Program of FMS aims to support young researchers and doctoral students in conducting scientific research activities in the country under the guidance of the best national researchers.

This year, 17 research projects were submitted by doctoral students and young researchers from research centers at universities in the Republic of Moldova. After a rigorous selection process, the top 10 projects were nominated, and today we had the honor of presenting the scholarship certificates to the winners.

Among the recipients of the excellence scholarships awarded by FMS are:

  1. Cristina Țugulea, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr. hab., Galina Bușmachiu from the Institute of Zoology/USM, with the project "Monitoring of Lepidoptera Species (Insecta: Lepidoptera) in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve 'Lower Prut' in the Republic of Moldova."
  2. Florentina Jomir, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr. Irina Golochalova from the Faculty of Economic Sciences/USM, with the project "Development of an Accounting and Reporting Framework for Land Resources in the Context of the Theory of Sustainable Development. Case Study: Agricultural Business in the Republic of Moldova."
  3. Cătălina Negoița, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr., Assoc. Prof. Tatiana Capcanari from the Department of Food and Nutrition/UTM, with the project "Valorization of Bioactive Compounds from Local Agro-Food Plant Waste for Functional Food Products."
  4. Dumitru Stati, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr., Assoc. Researcher Svetlana Baca from the Institute of Applied Physics/USM, with the project "Multifunctional Metal-Organic Materials Based on Homo- and Heterometallic Co/Co-4f Carboxylates."
  5. Aighiuni Bahșiev, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr. Irina Zamorzaeva from the Institute of Genetics, Physiology, and Plant Protection/USM, with the project "Monitoring the Spread of Candidatus Phytoplasma solani in Tomatoes, Apples, and Some Host Plants."
  6. Tatiana Bunduc, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr. Iurie Bejan from the Institute of Ecology and Geography/USM, with the project "Effects of Land Use on Soil Degradation. Case Study: Tigheci Hydrographic Basin."
  7. Mariana Ulinici, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr., Assoc. Prof. Valentina Vorojbit from the Department of Preventive Medicine/USMF, with the project "Study of Neutralizing Antibody Activities in the Serum of COVID-19 Convalescents and Vaccinated SARS-CoV-2 Individuals in the Republic of Moldova."
  8. Elena Neguța, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr., Assoc. Prof. Ion Bulimestru from the Institute of Chemistry/USM, with the project "Synthesis and Study of Coordinative Compounds of Cu(II) and Bi(III) with Aminopolycarboxylate and Thiosemicarbazone Ligands Derived from 2-Formylpyridine."
  9. Ana Mutu, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Academician, Prof. Maria Duca from the Center for Molecular Biology/USM, with the project "Impact of Climate Change on the Productivity Indices of Sunflower Cultivation in Different Agricultural Regions of the Republic of Moldova."
  10. Tatiana Malcova, under the supervision of Scientific Advisor Dr. hab., Prof. Viorel Nacu from the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Cell Cultures/USMF, with the project "Applicability of Decellularized Vascular Matrix as a Bioscaffold in Vascular Tissue Engineering."

We congratulate all the recipients of the excellence scholarships awarded by the World Federation of Scientists and wish them success in their research projects. These scholarships represent recognition of their efforts in the scientific field and encouragement to pursue excellence in their academic careers.

The World Federation of Scientists will continue to support doctoral students and young researchers in the Republic of Moldova in their efforts to contribute to the development of knowledge and scientific progress.
