Academician, Professor, Coordinator of WFS Moldova, President of the Chemical Society R.M. Gheorghe Duca, successfully participated in the International Security Seminar, Edition 57, organized by the World Federation of Scientists (WFS). The event took place in the "Isidor Isac Rabi Institute", Erice, Italy, August 8, 2025.
The event brought together a significant number of researchers, scientists from several countries of the world. Acad. Gh. Duca had the honor of presenting an allocation entitled "Microplastic and Toxic Chemical Additives Pollution as a Global Environmental Threat"
Within this communication, it was presented the devastating impact of microplastics and toxic additives on nature, ecosystems, and human health. Invisible plastic particles carrying BPA, phthalates, styrene, and heavy metals are now present in air, water, soil, food, and human blood, causing hormonal disruption, chronic inflammation, fertility problems, and increased cancer risk.
Other scientists also addressed this threat: Professor Tomas Zoeller (USA), Professor Maria Street (USA), Professor Paola Palanza (Italy), among others, highlighting the scientific consensus and urgency for international action.
Acad., Prof. Gheorghe Duca proposed the creation of an International Convention on Microplastics, modeled after treaties on persistent organic pollutants and climate change, with concrete measures for reduction, banning hazardous additives, and developing advanced neutralization technologies.
Acad., Prof. Gh. Duca expresses sincere gratitude to Professor Antonino Zichichi, Fabrizio Zichichi and the World Federation of Scientists team for their valuable collaboration, ongoing support, and unwavering commitment.
