Success and Challenges of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova
During the First Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences from the Member States of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), which took place in Istanbul on February 14-15, 2024, the former president of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova, Academician Gheorghe Duca, highlighted the remarkable achievements of the institution during his time at the helm. Under his administration, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova has made significant progress in promoting scientific research and strengthening international collaboration.
Academician Duca also highlighted the challenges facing the Academy today, including the need for adequate funding and modernization of research infrastructure. These problems are not unique to Moldova, but reflect common difficulties encountered by science academies throughout the Black Sea region.
The meeting was a valuable opportunity for academic leaders to share experiences, discuss strategies to overcome obstacles and explore new directions of collaboration to promote scientific excellence in the region.
